About PNG to BMP
Convert PNG to BMP format
What this tool offers, based on how it actually works.
Small files are often done in seconds; larger files and server-side conversions take longer depending on size and current load.
Files travel over HTTPS. Anything uploaded to our servers is removed by an automated cleanup job; some conversions never leave your browser.
We aim to preserve clarity and layout, but results depend on the formats involved. See the notes on this page for what to expect.
Use it straight from your web browser; there is nothing to install.
Desktop, tablet, or mobile—use the same workflow on any device.
Start converting for free with no account. Paid plans raise limits; see the Pricing page.
Three simple steps that fit any workflow.

Jump into common format pairs or switch to a nearby tool when you need it.
Step-by-step instructions for this conversion.
Add your PNG file by dragging it into the upload area or choosing it from your device.
Confirm BMP as the output format and, if offered, adjust quality or size.
Start the conversion and wait for the progress indicator to finish.
Download the BMP file and check it before deleting the original.
Differences between the two formats that affect the result.
BMP files are uncompressed and can be many times larger than the source image.
BMP cannot store transparency, so any transparent areas in the PNG are flattened onto a solid background. If you need to keep a see-through background, choose PNG or WebP instead.

Common answers so you can keep moving.
PNG is a lossless raster format that supports full transparency. It suits screenshots, logos and graphics with sharp edges, but photographs make large PNG files. BMP is an old, usually uncompressed Windows bitmap format, so files are very large.

BMP has no transparency, so transparent pixels are filled with a solid background. Use PNG or WebP to keep transparency.
Make sure the file really is PNG (renaming an extension does not change the format) and that it opens correctly on your device. Password-protected or corrupted files are rejected. If the file is very large, try again with a smaller one.
