About JPG to PNG
Convert JPG/JPEG to PNG format
What this tool offers, based on how it actually works.
Small files are often done in seconds; larger files and server-side conversions take longer depending on size and current load.
Files travel over HTTPS. Anything uploaded to our servers is removed by an automated cleanup job; some conversions never leave your browser.
We aim to preserve clarity and layout, but results depend on the formats involved. See the notes on this page for what to expect.
Use it straight from your web browser; there is nothing to install.
Desktop, tablet, or mobile—use the same workflow on any device.
Start converting for free with no account. Paid plans raise limits; see the Pricing page.
Three simple steps that fit any workflow.
Drag and drop or browse to add your file. Size and type are checked before it is accepted.
Choose the output format that fits where the file will be used.
Start the conversion and download the result when it is ready.
Jump into common format pairs or switch to a nearby tool when you need it.
Step-by-step instructions for this conversion.
Add your JPG file by dragging it into the upload area or choosing it from your device.
Confirm PNG as the output format and, if offered, adjust quality or size.
Start the conversion and wait for the progress indicator to finish.
Download the PNG file and check it before deleting the original.
Differences between the two formats that affect the result.
PNG is lossless, so the conversion itself will not lower quality, but it cannot bring back detail already lost in a lossy source.
Converting a lossy JPG to lossless PNG gives a larger file but cannot restore detail that was already discarded.

No installs and no sign-in to get started. Your original file is never modified; you download a new converted copy.
For smaller files this conversion can run inside your browser, so the file is not uploaded (about 50 MB or less on desktop and 20 MB or less on mobile). Larger files, low-powered devices, or a failed local attempt fall back to server processing, in which case the file is uploaded temporarily and removed by an automated cleanup job. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Common answers so you can keep moving.
JPG (JPEG) is a lossy photo format that discards fine detail to keep files small. It has no transparency and no animation. PNG is a lossless raster format that supports full transparency. It suits screenshots, logos and graphics with sharp edges, but photographs make large PNG files.

Make sure the file really is JPG (renaming an extension does not change the format) and that it opens correctly on your device. Password-protected or corrupted files are rejected. If the file is very large, try again with a smaller one.

Files above the local size limit, or devices with limited resources, are handled on the server automatically. This is expected and the result is the same format.
