WhatsApp lets you share documents up to 100 MB, but large PDFs — scanned contracts, photo portfolios, high-resolution brochures — can easily exceed that. Here is how to get your PDF under the limit reliably.

For practical reliability, aim for under 50 MB. Very close to the limit can cause issues on slower connections.
Step 1: Compress the PDF
The fastest approach for most PDFs is to use ToolzStack's PDF compressor.

Most PDFs with embedded images compress to 30-70% of the original size. A 60 MB brochure might compress to 15-20 MB.
Step 2: If the Compressed PDF Is Still Too Large
For scanned documents (image-based PDFs)
Scanned PDFs are almost entirely image data. If still too large after compression, the scan may be at very high resolution (400-600 DPI). Re-scan at 150-200 DPI if you control the scanner. 150 DPI is sufficient for on-screen reading and is the sweet spot for size vs. readability on mobile.
For image-heavy PDFs (brochures, portfolios)
If you have the original source file, re-export at "Web" or "Screen" quality rather than "Print" quality. Print-quality PDFs embed images at 300 DPI — far more than needed for viewing on a phone screen.
Flatten the PDF first
PDFs with form fields, annotations, or multiple layers carry overhead that compression cannot fully remove. Flatten the PDF to remove these layers, then re-run the compressor.

This often produces significantly smaller output for interactive PDFs.
Step 3: If It Cannot Be Made Small Enough
When a PDF genuinely needs to stay large, sharing the file directly is not the right approach regardless of platform.
Use a cloud link
- Upload the PDF to Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive
- Set sharing to "Anyone with the link can view"
- Copy the link and paste it into WhatsApp
The recipient can open it in their browser — no size limit applies, and the file quality is preserved.
Split the document
If the PDF is a multi-chapter document, use PDF Split to divide it into sections and send them as separate messages.

Results vary — the compressor is most effective on PDFs with high-resolution images. Text-only PDFs are already small and compress less.
